FAQs

  • When is LIMUN 2012?
    • LIMUN 2012 will be held on the weekend of 10-12 February 2012.

  • Where will the conference be held?
    • The conference sessions will be hosted by Imperial College London at the South Kensington Campus.

The opening ceremony is at a separate venue, the Institute of Education.

  • When is the registration deadline? How do the "round" deadlines work?
    • The First Round of applications closes on 14 November and the Second Round on 28 November. The Second Round may be closed early if venue capacity has been reached.

Countries are allocated to delegates after the close of applications for each round. Countries in high demand are likely to be allocated in the First Round, as well as the more popular committees.

  • How much is the delegate fee? What is included in the fee?
    • The delegate fee for LIMUN 2012 is £40/£45. Included in the fee are all conference materials, access to all conference sessions and - new for this year - lunch on Saturday and Sunday.

Accomodation and travel must be covered by delegates themselves. Conference social events also require an additional fee.

  • How can I pay the delegate fee?
    • The delegate fees are payable online by debit/credit card on registration. We only accept online payments of delegate fees through the PayPal system.

  • Can LIMUN offer any financial support for delegates attending the conference?
    • We are unable to offer any financial assistance to delegates participating in LIMUN, but maintain a low delegate fee to ensure wide access.

Exceptions are made for delegates participating in the Outreach program. Please contact the Secretariat to find out more.

  • Is LIMUN suitable for school/college students as well as university students?
    • Yes. Depending on your skills and experience, LIMUN is suitable for school or college students in Year 12 and Year 13. We regret that we do not accept applications from younger delegates.

Typically less than 5% of delegates are school or college students. If you are from a school, please read the application instructions carefully before paying your fee.

Due to the safety concerns of venue staff, some social events may be restricted to delegates over the age of 18, although LIMUN does its best to minimise such restrictions.

  • I have never partcipated in an MUN conference before. Can I still attend the conference?
    • LIMUN is suitable for all types of delegates, both beginners and veterans. You are welcome to participate in the conference even if you have never participated in MUN simulations in the past.

Some committees are provided specifically for delegates new to MUN. Staff in these committees will concentrate on developing the skills, knowledge and confidence of new delegates.

There will be training workshops at the beginning of the conference to ensure that you are able to fully participate and enjoy the weekend.

Throughout the conference there will also be plenty of members from the Secretariat team present to answer any questions you have.

  • How do I prepare for the conference?
    • We have provided a number of resources to help you prepare for the conference. Under each committee, you will find Study Guides and the Rules of Procedure. You can also submit your Position Paper and read those prepared by other delgates in your committee.

Your first step should be to research the country that you have been allocated, its foreign policy and its approach to the topics on the agenda of your committee. You should also read the Rules of Procedure. Although they may appear intimidating for delegates new to MUN, they are very easy to learn by observing how things work in the first committee session.

Some committees are particuarly suited for delegates new to MUN or not yet confident with the Rules of Procedure. Staff in these commmittees will concentrate on developing the skills, knowledge and confidence of new delegates.

  • What is a "Faculty Adviser"?
    • The faculty advisor is normally a member of teaching staff who is responsible for organizing and training a delegation before they attend the conference. Faculty advisors who do not participate as a delegate at the conference are exempt from paying the delegate fee, as long as they register with a delegation.

  • Can LIMUN assist me with finding accommodation in London during the conference?
    • There are many guest houses, bed and breakfasts and youth hostels suitable for a student budget throughout London. We have prepared a list of accommodation that might be useful. The inclusion of accommodation on the list does not imply endorsement or recommendation by LIMUN.

LIMUN Secretariat unfortunately cannot actively assist delegates with finding accommodation in London during the conference.

  • I am travelling to the conference from outside the EU and need a visa. Can you help?
    • We can arrange to send you individual invitation letters for visa purposes after you have registered as a delegate or delegation. Please follow the instructions on the registration page.

  • Can I store my luggage at the conference venue during opening and closing ceremonies?

Awards Policy

The purpose of LIMUN is to expose delegates to the work of different international organizations, to gain skills in rhetoric, negotiation and resolution writing, and to network with students from around the world committed to international affairs.

Awards will be given to delegates that epitomize the spirit of LIMUN. Award winners succeed in communicating their objectives, cooperating with other delegates, seeking a consensus, and representing the policy of their country accurately, yet not in detriment of the committee.

Award winners become a reference point to the committee, as they steer debate and lead a bloc towards a resolution, always maintaining diplomatic decorum.

Delegates that speak ample amounts of time gain no advantage, as substance is more important than quantity. Similarly, sponsoring resolutions per se does not warrant an award.

The distribution of awards shall be as follows:

SECURITY COUNCIL, INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT

Outstanding Delegate

NATO, EUROPEAN UNION, AFRICAN UNION, ORGANIZATION OF THE ISLAMIC CONFERENCE, LEAGUE OF NATIONS

UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY, UN AGENCIES
