A Not-So-Stressful Yet Highly Productive Second Day at LIMUN 2025

Roaming through the committees at the prestigious King’s College London, the intensity of debate is palpable, yet the usual stress associated with such a grand event seems absent. Delegates across various committees wear bright smiles, fully engaged in discussions, forming connections, and fostering new friendships. There is no hesitation in speeches, no nervous glances downward, only an air of confidence and determination.

For an observer, watching the debates unfold is akin to witnessing real diplomats in action, except with younger faces. It is nothing short of inspiring to see such bright young minds demonstrating their eloquence, intellect, and passion for global affairs. From an outsider’s perspective, the event exudes an effortless flow of ideas and exchanges, but those who have been delegates before know the immense preparation and dedication that goes into every speech and negotiation. Seeing the conference in this light makes one appreciate the effort each participant has put in, and every delegate should take immense pride in their contributions.

Big Roles, Little Pressure

Some of the most significant roles in any Model United Nations conference are held by those representing global superpowers, the United States, China, Russia, and leading European nations. Typically, these positions come with great responsibility, as such nations often lead blocs and shape the direction of debates. However, in LIMUN 2025, some of these high-profile delegates appear more at ease than expected, adding to the conference’s unexpectedly relaxed atmosphere.

In ECOFIN, where the debate centers on the implications of geopolitical shifts in global trade and supply chains, the delegate representing the United States is only at his second-ever conference. Despite the weight of his country’s role, he appears calm and composed, describing the experience as both “great and enjoyable.” When asked whether he was leading his bloc during unmoderated caucuses, they modestly replied, “Not really, not this bloc which I am part of.” While experience may play a role in his approach, this also showcases the collaborative and less hierarchical nature of the debates this year. As delegates gain more exposure to MUN, their confidence will undoubtedly grow, allowing them to take on leadership roles with even greater assertiveness.

In the ASEAN committee however, chairs have noticed the stress of the delegates, mentioning how they anxiously react when even a small comment is made on their performance, something as little as a simple ROP correction may be enough to trigger them, one of the chairs highlighting their efforts to try to make the delegates laugh a little, in order to loosen up the serious atmosphere.

IMF is the opposite, delegates are laughing, forgetting ROPs, whilst one delegate sits in the back of the room finishing school work. It appears committees are balancing each other out.

An International Conference, A Gateway to Growth

LIMUN’s prestige as an international conference is not solely defined by the quality of debate, it also serves as a unique opportunity for students to connect with like-minded peers from across the world. It is a space where cultural diversity enriches discussions, and personal connections become just as valuable as the diplomatic discourse itself.

The delegation of Laos in the ECOSOC committee perfectly encapsulates this sentiment, stating, “It’s really fun working with people from all around the world. It’s great being part of a truly international conference.” The ability to engage with individuals from different cultural backgrounds enhances delegates’ perspectives, helping them grow not only as future leaders but also as globally conscious individuals. Similarly, the delegate of Tanzania in ECOSOC noted how welcoming and collaborative her fellow committee members have been, reinforcing the sense of camaraderie that LIMUN fosters.

A Platform for Academic and Intellectual Expansion

Beyond diplomacy and networking, LIMUN serves as a bridge between academic studies and real-world application. Delegates often select committees that align with their fields of interest, making the conference an enriching extension of their education.

The delegate of France in ECOFIN, for example, chose the committee due to a strong academic background in economics and a passion for global trade. After three days of engaging debates on the shifting geopolitical landscape of trade, he will return to university with deeper insights and meaningful discussion points to bring to class. Similarly, the delegate of Kenya in ECOSOC, an economics major, found particular value in representing a developing nation in discussions on building digital infrastructure for sustained economic development. Through this experience, they gained a new perspective on how global economic discourse often prioritizes developed nations, despite the fact that developing countries contribute innovative solutions as well. This demonstrates how LIMUN is more than just a debate, it is a platform where students refine their critical thinking and expand their knowledge in ways that extend far beyond committee sessions.

LIMUN and Its Delegates: A Mutually Beneficial Relationship

As the second day of LIMUN 2025 unfolds, it is evident that the delegates, while perhaps concealing minor stress, are overwhelmingly grateful for the opportunity to participate. The conference thrives because of their enthusiasm and brilliance, and in turn, they gain invaluable experiences, knowledge, and friendships. Though awards may be on the line, what truly stands out is the spirit of mutual growth, delegates pushing one another toward greater heights, not just as competitors, but as future leaders shaping the world together.
